An Evolve electric skateboard battery makes use of lithium-ion cells. There are tonnes of reasons for this but the main one is that their energy density is higher than other types of batteries. This means you get more current out of them and more current means more power, from a smaller space. We use every technique we can to keep our boards light and slim. The result? The best carving feeling. An Evolve battery is lower maintenance in comparison to other types of batteries. You don't need to do any scheduled cycling, they've got slow self-discharge rates and no memory effect. This means full performance, all the time. We use smaller lithium cells because they're simple to assemble in our iconic Evolve configuration and help to keep the battery slim. The configuration is what determines voltage and output. We've put it together in a refined way that delivers optimal power while not sacrificing range. Evolve boards also have an in-built BMS (battery management system). This stops the electric skateboard battery from overcharging or over-discharging. There's so much that this little piece of tech does. It monitors the temperature of your Evolve battery, monitors cell health and protects against voltage spikes. It does all this while accurately calculating how much charge the battery has left. Many electric skateboards lack a smart BMS, and Evolve's is crucial in limiting unnecessary maintenance and unintentional misuse.

The longevity and cycle life of your Evolve battery is determined by the way you ride and care for your board. As we've mentioned, the BMS will ensure consistent, optimal current output. It will keep this current at a safe level no matter how hard you ride, so you're not at any immediate risk. That said, hard riding (for example, flat out on thick grass) is going to reduce the life of your battery. Nothing in the world can go at peak performance, non-stop, without a bit of wear and tear. An electric skateboard battery is exactly the same. Do you tend to cruise around your neighborhood on smooth streets at middling speed? You can expect your battery to last longer than if you demand heaps more of it. It's not unsafe to do that (thanks to our BMS), and you should ride in whichever way you most enjoy. Still, it's handy to keep that advice in mind.
